Much of Benji’s past remains a mystery, but his future is waiting to be written. This handsome boy was rescued from the streets of Romania in February 2023 when he was around 8 years old. Now, after spending over two years at the shelter, he is still patiently waiting for a family to call his own. With his regal looks and gentle nature, Benji is truly a one-of-a-kind dog who deserves the best home possible.

Personality
Benji is a stunning Hovawart, a German working breed known for its intelligence, loyalty, and gentle demeanor. A true shepherd type, he has a noble presence but an even bigger heart.

He currently lives in one of the shelter’s playgrounds with his female companion, as he found kennel life too stressful. Since moving, he has truly blossomed, showing his playful and affectionate side. He wears his harness beautifully and absolutely loves his walks. Even when he’s brimming with excitement at the thought of an adventure, he patiently sits and waits for his carer to put his harness on—such a well-mannered boy!

With new people, Benji is curious and friendly. He warms up quickly, happily leaning in for affection like he’s giving you a hug, his tail wagging the whole time. A true “gentle giant,” Benji rarely barks, even with all the hustle and bustle of the shelter. He’s a calm and loving soul just waiting for the right family to appreciate his incredible spirit.

Home Required
Benji is looking for a home with patient and understanding adopters who can help him settle in at his own pace. He will need to learn everything from scratch, so a good understanding of positive reinforcement training and counter-conditioning would be ideal.

A spacious home would suit Benji best, giving him plenty of room to relax and adjust to his new life. He could thrive as an only dog or with a calm female companion. Despite his age, he still has plenty of energy for long walks, exploring new places, and making memories with his future family. But at the end of the day, what he truly wants is a cozy spot on the sofa to snuggle up and snooze after his adventures.
