Meet Percy – A Sweet Soul Looking for a Loving Home
Background
Percy’s journey began in the care of a kind-hearted local resident who took in and cared for many dogs. Sadly, when the resident became too ill to continue, our partner rescue stepped in to ensure all the dogs found safety.
Now, Percy is searching for a loving home where he can finally experience the warmth and security of a real family.
Personality
Percy is a gorgeous 3-year-old terrier mix who has been at the shelter since January 2025. He currently shares his kennel with a female dog, and the two get along wonderfully. Percy finds great comfort and confidence in the presence of other dogs, which helps him feel more secure.
While he can be a little reserved when on his own, having a canine companion by his side brings out his curious nature. With another dog around, he will give you a good sniff and gently accept calm, gentle strokes. He is slowly but surely learning to trust and open up to people.
Percy is also making great progress with harness and lead training. He recently went for a short walk outside the shelter with his kennel mate, where he enjoyed sniffing around and taking in his surroundings. With time, patience, and positive reinforcement, Percy will continue to gain confidence and enjoy new experiences.
Home Required
Percy needs patient and understanding owners who will use counter-conditioning and positive reinforcement to help him settle into his new life. As he has never lived in a home before, he will need to learn everything from scratch.
He would benefit greatly from living with a friendly, confident resident dog who can help show him the ropes and boost his confidence. A rural or suburban home would be ideal, providing him with a calm environment where he can adjust at his own pace.
Percy has so much love to give—he just needs the right family to help him feel safe and secure. Could you be the one to give Percy his fresh start?
