Meet Maddie – A Gentle Soul Ready for a Loving Home

Maddie is almost 13 years old and has been at the safety of the shelter for four years now. She was rescued from a hoarder’s house alongside many other dogs, where the owner was sadly too ill to care for them.

Now, Maddie finally has the chance to find a home of her own, where she can experience love, comfort, and stability in her golden years.

Personality
Maddie is a calm, gentle soul who is wonderful with other dogs and still loves to run and play—she may be a senior, but she’s full of life!

She currently lives in an open area at the shelter where the team takes their breaks. When she first arrived, she was shy and worried, but having the opportunity to see lots of people coming and going has done wonders for her confidence.

Maddie enjoys calm, gentle affection from those she trusts. With new people, she may hang back slightly, watching curiously, but it doesn’t take long before she approaches for a stroke (and some treats, of course!).

She’s currently learning how to wear a harness and walk on a lead, and she’s making great progress. She’s already been on a few walks and loves taking in all the sights, smells, and sounds of the world around her. The team has noticed that on walks, she really enjoys it when you talk to her and offer words of encouragement—she happily follows along, soaking in the adventure!

Home Required
Maddie needs patient and understanding owners who will use positive reinforcement training and counter-conditioning to help her adjust to her new world.

She could happily live as an only dog, but we also think she would thrive with a calm, resident dog to help boost her confidence—especially as she settles into her new home.

Maddie would prefer a more rural area with a good garden where she can relax and explore at her own pace. Her perfect family would be a mix of adventure and chill—a nice, peaceful walk followed by a cozy afternoon lounging at home would be her dream life!
