Meet Mavis – A Brave Girl Ready to Begin Again

Background

Mavis has been at the shelter since February 2024. Before her rescue, she lived near a farm where she was sadly abused by workers. Tragically, her puppies were also harmed and killed. Despite this heart-breaking start to life, Mavis was finally rescued and given the chance she so deeply deserved. Since then, she has been steadily healing, learning that people can be kind, and showing everyone just how loving and resilient she truly is.

She now shares her kennel with a male dog named Eddie, and the two form a sweet, affectionate pair who bring each other comfort and confidence.

Personality

Mavis is a loving, affectionate, and playful girl who thrives on human attention. She greets visitors with a wagging tail, bright eyes, and plenty of enthusiasm, often asking for cuddles and kisses. Once she settles, she enjoys standing close to her people, leaning in for strokes, and gently pressing her head into waiting hands.

She is curious and energetic, especially on walks, where she loves to explore her surroundings and sniff everything in sight. Mavis can become excited by other dogs barking nearby or by the anticipation of walks, but with calm guidance she is able to settle and refocus. She gets along beautifully with Eddie, showing patience, affection, and a cooperative spirit.

Mavis has shown that she responds well to kind handling, routine, and reassurance. With positive, reward-based training, counter-conditioning, and gentle structure, she will continue to grow into a more confident companion.

Home Required

Mavis is looking for a patient, understanding home that will allow her to transition gently into family life. She has never lived in a home before and will need lots of guidance as she learns everyday routines, house manners, and how to relax in a domestic environment.

Her adopters should be committed to positive reinforcement training, using rewards, calm consistency, and counter-conditioning to help her build confidence and cope with moments of excitement or uncertainty. A calm, structured household with people who value empathy, gentle leadership, and emotional safety would suit her best.

A secure garden and regular enrichment through walks, play, and training will help meet her physical and mental needs. She could potentially live with another friendly dog, especially one who can model calm behaviour, as she enjoys canine companionship.
