Meet Millie – a girl who is looking for a calmer home where she can feel safe and loved at last.

Background

Millie is around 8 years old and came to the care of the shelter in April 2025 after her previous owner could no longer care for her due to a change in living circumstances. Until then, Millie lived in an outdoor kennel — never truly part of a family life. Now she’s learning, slowly but surely, what it feels like to be safe, loved, and noticed.

Personality

Millie is calm, quiet, and gentle. She doesn’t rush into interactions — instead, she approaches softly, wagging her tail, curious but cautious. When she trusts you, she’ll let you stroke her gently, staying close and occasionally returning to her kennel for quiet time. A future adopter will need to be patient, understanding and use counter-conditioning with Millie to really help her settle into her new world.
She shares her kennel with another female dog, who she often checks in on, sniffing and gently licking her – showing her affectionate nature.
Though still reserved, Millie is beginning to open up. With repeated visits, she’s shown growing comfort, even approaching volunteers a bit faster and seeking out contact on her own terms. She’s never pushy — just quietly present.

Home required

Millie requires a calm, patient home — one that understands building trust slowly. We feel it would be best for Millie if she isn’t in a loud or busy environment, just a quiet space, gentle people, and the freedom to go at her own pace.

Another calm dog in the home may help her feel more at ease, but she would also do well as a solo companion for someone who simply wants to offer her life filled with kindness and routine.

Millie may be quiet, but her gentle spirit speaks for itself. After losing the only home she knew, she’s learning to trust again. We believe that with patience and love, Millie will blossom into the loyal, peaceful companion she was always meant to be. She’s not looking for much — just someone to finally see her and choose her. Could that be you?
