Meet Rodney – The Brave Survivour

Background

Rodney was born in July 2017 and it is believed he was originally owned before being abandoned. Not before being burnt across the nose, which is sadly typical of dogs that are abandoned by their owners, it is meant to bring them luck whilst on the streets. Eventually, a kind family from a local village began caring for him, providing some shelter and support, though he still spent a lot of time roaming the streets. At a time during his life Rodney had been tied very tight by something round his neck, which has caused him to develop a tight scar around his neck, which made breathing difficult. When the shelter team learned about his situation, he was brought in for treatment and successfully underwent surgery to relieve his neck. Rodney has come a long way from his challenging beginnings and is ready to find a loving home where he can continue to go from strength to strength.

Personality

Rodney is a gentle and affectionate companion with a loving temperament. He enjoys human interaction and quickly seeks attention, nudging with his nose, giving kisses, and even playing gently. Rodney is confident and curious, pricking up his ears at new sounds and exploring his surroundings with a happy, food-motivated enthusiasm. He responds beautifully to calm, patient guidance and thrives with positive reward-based training, already learning sit and roll over. He loves belly rubs and is both playful and relaxed, able to settle calmly beside his humans after a bit of interaction. Rodney’s expressive face and affectionate nature make him a heartwarming presence in any home.

Rodeny has been on group walks with other dogs outside the shelter and is doing really well with his harness training and walking.

Home Required

Rodney would do best in a patient and understanding household, where his new family appreciates gentle guidance and positive reinforcement. He will need continued support to adjust fully to a home environment, including exposure to everyday sounds, routines, and gentle training. While he has done well on walks and in interactions with other dogs, a home with a calm routine and, ideally, a canine companion or attentive human presence will help Rodney thrive.

Rodney is a resilient, happy-hearted dog who has overcome a difficult past. With patience, understanding, and gentle guidance, he can continue to grow in confidence and trust. This affectionate, food-motivated boy loves human company, learning new skills, and giving love in return. Rodney is ready to find a home where he can share his loyalty, charm, and heartwarming personality with a family who will celebrate every step of his journey.
