Meet Rubix – A Sweet Soul Who’s Waited Too Long for Love

Background
Rubix’s journey to safety began in February 2019 when he was rescued from one of Romania’s public shelters—a terrifying place where survival is uncertain. That day was his lucky break, as our team brought him to the safety of our shelter. Since then, he has spent six years in our care, waiting patiently for a home of his own. Six years is far too long for such a wonderful boy to be overlooked, and we know his perfect family is out there somewhere.

Personality
Now approximately 8 years old, Rubix has come such a long way from the shy, anxious dog he once was. We can’t imagine what he must have endured before his rescue, but thanks to the dedication of our team, he has blossomed into a more confident, happy, and playful boy. He shares his kennel beautifully with his playmate, and the two enjoy playing together.

With the carers he trusts, Rubix loves rolling onto his back for belly rubs and leaning in for extra scratches. He approaches new people with curiosity, sometimes taking a step back if he feels unsure—but don’t worry! With a little patience (and a few tasty treats), he quickly warms up and becomes your friend.

Rubix has also begun learning how to wear a harness and walk on a lead so he can enjoy the excitement of going on walks! His new family will need to continue this training using counter-conditioning and positive reinforcement, helping him gain confidence with each step.

Home Required
Rubix needs a patient and understanding family who will let him settle in at his own pace, using positive reinforcement to help him adjust to home life. Since he has never lived in a home before, he will need to learn everything from scratch, but with the right guidance, he will flourish.

An ideal home for Rubix would be in a quiet, rural area with plenty of space, giving him room to feel comfortable—especially during his initial settling-in period. He could live as an only dog, but having a calm, friendly resident dog would be a wonderful bonus to help show him the ropes and boost his confidence.

After six long years of waiting, Rubix deserves to finally know the warmth of a loving home and a comfy bed to call his own. Could you be the one to give him the forever home he’s been dreaming of?
