Sweet Tessa – Ready for a second chance at love

Background
Tessa was brought to the shelter in May 2023. She is approximately 8 years old and spent the first 6 years of her life surviving on the streets before being rescued. For most of her life, she has known nothing but hardship, fending for herself without the comfort of a warm bed or a loving touch. Now, for the first time, she is being cared for, and she deserves a second chance to experience the kindness and security she has never known. Tessa needs a quiet, understanding home where she can finally relax, curl up on a soft sofa, and spend her golden years knowing what love truly feels like.

Personality
Sweet Tessa is a shy girl who is trying so hard to trust humans. She shares her kennel happily with a male dog and looks to him for reassurance. Over time, she has shared space with a variety of other dogs and has always gotten along well with them. When you are outside her kennel looking in, she will run to the bars and curiously observe you while staying close to her kennel mate. Inside her kennel, she is gradually building the courage to be stroked, though she isn’t quite there yet. However, she will take treats from her caretakers, which is amazing progress—well done, Tessa!

Home Required
Tessa needs a very patient and understanding home with owners who will give her the time and space to gain confidence at her own pace. A calm and stable environment is essential, and having a friendly, well-adjusted resident dog would be beneficial to help her feel secure and continue learning. Her new family should have a good understanding of positive reinforcement training and counter conditioning to gently encourage her progress.

She may take time to fully trust, but with love and patience, Tessa will flourish in the right home. Will you be the one to show her what true love looks like?
